Oil to last indefinitely if the contaminants are removed, as oil does not lose its properties. System life increased–at least double –saving of large capital investment. Less maintenance cost- drastically reduce built-in filter replacement. Better production due to less downtime. Less oil imported, thus saving foreign exchange for the country. As oil is not dumped on the ground, thereby saving pollution of ground, water, and air, therefore helping in controlling pollution. Oil kept at NAS-3- the oil will then become practically frictionless, and life of the system and oil including journals and bearings of thermal power plants, will be indefinite, i.e. over 60 years.
Particles of 1-2 microns are not considered in NAS level determination. They are just as dangerous as 5-15 microns particles. UOC. Filtration removes a large numbers of 1-2 microns particles, known as silt, which cause considerable wear to close tolerance part, and also cause internal leakages, thereby lowering system efficiency.
The oil in the system travels at very high pressure and speed and the silt causes considerable wear to values and seals.-as these particles act like bullets. Even NAS-4 used oil could have very large number of 1-2 micron particles.
